Abstract

This article proposes a quality control process model incorporating the covariance component model (CCM). As an alternative to traditional approaches, the CCM is integrated into the second phase of quality control process for the identification of uncontrolled variation sources. Two different settings are used to illustrate the construction of the CCM. A set of data is used to demonstrate the use of the CCM in these two different settings. The benefits of the application of the CCM to quality control are discussed. Caveats of the application of the CCM are reported.
