Abstract

The ESR spectra of Mn2P2S6 and several intercalation compounds of Mn2P2S6 are reported. The temperature dependence of the ESR line width in the case of pure Mn2P2S6 is consistent with antiferromagnetic ordering of Mn2P2S6 below 78 K. The behavior of the ESR spectrum for ammonia and pyridine intercalation compounds of Mn2P2S6 suggests that these materials also order antiferromagnetically but at much lower temperatures than pure Mn2P2S6 (11 and 36 K compared to 78 K). Cobaltocene-intercalated Mn2P2S6 appears to order ferromagnetically below 50 K.
