John Eliason

Ph.D.

Dr. John Eliason is a Professor of English and the University Writing Center Director. He teaches first-year writing and a variety of upper-division courses in the Writing Concentration. His professional areas of interest include writing pedagogy, writing across the curriculum, writing centers, interdisciplinary collaborations, professional writing, reading instruction, creative nonfiction writing, and outdoor education. Dr. Eliason serves on the review boards for The WAC Journal and Across the Disciplines. He also provides writing consulting services to organizations and works as a freelance writer.

Currently, Dr. Eliason is working with Dr. Abigail Villagrán Mora (University of Puebla, Mexico) on an article manuscript about professional mentoring in higher education. They are giving specific emphasis to faculty and staff mentoring in writing studies areas such as writing centers, first-year writing programs, and writing-across-the-curriculum programs.

In addition, he is in the early stages of writing a series of creative nonfiction essays on possible effects of global climate change on hunting, the role of hunters in contemporary conservation efforts, and personal and group identity in U.S. hunting history.
